Enteric infections most often present as acute diarrhea. They are the most common of all gastrointestinal disorders, a common cause of morbidity in North America, but a serious threat to life in the developing world. In Canada there is an average of over 1.5 episodes of infectious diarrhea per person annually, costing an estimated $3.7 billion.
